A
new partnership between
Wilmington University and the
Delmar School District allows
high school juniors and seniors
to obtain high school and
college credit simultaneously.
Starting in the fall of 2013, eligible high
school students can enroll in Wilmington
University through the Early College Program
and a end classes taught by Delmar High
School teachers in Delmar High School class-
rooms. These teachers have been approved for
adjunct professorship by the University.
Three Wilmington University courses will be
offered next year through this program: English
101, Science 232 and Math 310. Additional
courses will be added each subsequent
academic year.
The district invited community members,
students, public officials, media and other
guests to a formal announcement of the
partnership at the district’s Media Center on
Tuesday, April 23.
State Rep. Tim Dukes called the partnership
“a launching pad for Delmar students” and said
it will give students a competitive edge in the
global economy.
“This is the type of rigorous opportunities
students need,” said Michael Watson,
Chief Academic Officer for the Delaware
Department of Education.
Dr. Peter Bailey, Wilmington University’s
Vice President for External Affairs, called the
partnership “a shining moment for both the
University and the Delmar School District.”
Delmar Superintendent Dr. David C. Ring
said, “The Delmar School District’s partnership
with Wilmington University is an opportunity to
offer our high school-age students the chance
to explore college-level course work. It will
increase the number of students enrolled in
college courses while providing the same level
of teacher-student connection that is already
provided in our classrooms and instructional
environment.”
