so we could get to know each other.”
Many of these diverse subcontractors tend to be smaller, so
IMC will sometimes partner them with a prime subcontractor
on its projects. “If we’re giving out a painting award and it’s
a couple million dollars, which is too large for some of the
diverse suppliers, they may get all the interiors or another
small portion,” he said. “In the past four years, we’ve been able
to provide several hundred million dollars of work to diverse
suppliers.”
One success story is Applewood Enterprises, a woman-owned
union commercial painting company that joined IMC’s outreach
initiative. Since partnering with IMC, Applewood has been
awarded two projects and is well-positioned for a third. Other
minority- or women-owned companies whose capabilities IMC
has helped expand include AGH Mechanical, Pride Enterprises
and HK Panel Systems.
IMC’s commitment to diversity also includes a recruiting effort
designed to attract talent from a wide range of backgrounds,
institutional outreach to schools and colleges with diverse
student populations, and training initiatives to create a work
environment where everyone feels valued and appreciated.
