Whenever a new residential development is approved, “HRG
reviews the sewer plans and we have to approve them,” said
Alam. “We also send out a construction representative to
oversee construction is being done in accordance with the
plans.”
Alam is particularly proud of HRG’s work for Willistown. “This
township has been very proactive in addressing stormwater
management,” she said. “This kind of planning allows you to
set aside funds well in advance and prepare for the issues we
already know are going to occur.”
In years to come, the King of Prussia office hopes to grow
its local market share into other areas of civil engineering,
including transportation as well as parks projects and land
development — services that are already being provided in
some of HRG’s other locations.
As for what sets HRG apart from other engineering and
infrastructure firms, Alam noted that HRG has an in-house
group of financial strategists and analysts. “They really help
us look at how to fund projects and they assist our municipal
clients with programmatic support,” Alam said. “Through them,
we’ve been able to secure over $2.1 billion in funding for our
municipal clients over the last 10 years.”

IMC CONSTRUCTION:
Improving Lives and Environments
IMC Construction is the nation’s largest minority-owned
commercial general contractor, as well as the fourth-largest
general contractor in the Greater Philadelphia region, with
branch offices in Philadelphia and Edison, NJ.
However, the company’s headquarters are located in Malvern.
“We’ve been in Chester County for over 46 years,” said President
and CEO Michael Lloyd. “Despite the fact that we’re opening
offices all across the region, we always view Chester County as
our anchor.”
IMC’s recent projects in Chester County have included updates
to Malvern Preparatory School and the construction of
audiovisual design company Cenero’s headquarters, also in
Malvern.
The company’s mission statement is “improving lives and
environments.” It’s a mission that’s highly personal for IMC
because “we live in the communities we work in,” said Lloyd.
“We’re not a general contractor who pops in and out — we
drive by our projects every day.”
It’s inevitable for challenges to arise in the construction
process. “But when you feel connected to the communities that
you work in and the projects that you’re doing, you work a bit
differently to overcome those challenges,” he said.
As an extension of this community commitment, IMC offers
its employees five volunteer days a year to serve with local
nonprofits. Through the IMC Charitable Foundation, the
company has given more than $2 million to charity since the
foundation’s inception 10 years ago.
The idea of caring about communities also expresses itself in
IMC’s commitment to diversity. “What we realized as part of our
DEI efforts is that you hire the people you know — that’s just
natural,” Lloyd said. “But we realized this was resulting in not
being as inclusive as we could be, so we undertook a significant
effort to identify all the diverse subcontractors, vendors and
