Mt. Cuba Center Greenhouse & Headhouse
The Mt. Cuba Center’s greenhouse and headhouse project exemplifies construction excellence through a combination of sustainable design and state-of-the-art construction practices. Constructed with a zero-energy aspiration, the facility incorporates cutting-edge geothermal heating, solar power, and rainwater harvesting systems to create a low-carbon, energy- efficient complex. To ensure smooth integration of these advanced technologies, constant collaboration between Bancroft, Mt. Cuba, and Re:Vision Architecture was pivotal. Despite the challenges
of tight material tolerances, lingering pandemic complications, and complex site conditions, the project team’s adaptability and innovative approach allowed them to overcome all obstacles and optimize the building’s performance. Thanks to the Bancroft team, the completed greenhouse will enhance Mt. Cuba’s horticultural research capabilities, while setting a benchmark for sustainable botanical facility design.
