P
roud employees make for proud
donors.
Thanks to the generosity and
giving spirit of 265 Wilmington
University employees, the second
annual Proud Donor Campaign was a rousing
success and raised thousands of dollars for
student scholarships.
The month-long campaign kicked off on
February 14, 2013, and offered WilmU faculty
and staff the opportunity to support the
Annual Fund. Every dollar of Annual Fund
proceeds goes directly to student scholarships.
Proud Donor Commi ee members at each
site handed out candy bars and other goodies
to all WilmU employees during the campaign.
Proud Donor bu ons were distributed to
each donor and their names entered in raffle
drawings.
A festive Cupcake Social wrapped up the
employee campaign on March 15, featuring a
grand prize raffle drawing. All sites celebrated
at the same time and shared in each
other’s event via web conference. Scholarship
recipients also were in a endance at each
location to show their appreciation.
This year’s campaign efforts increased
employee participation from 36 percent to an
astounding 64 percent. Of the 265 employees
who donated this year, 165 of them did so
through payroll deduction, and 100 made a
one-time donation.
“This just goes to show that this University
is filled with generous employees who set
the standard as Wilmington University ‘Proud
Donors,’ ” said University Alumni Associate
Brandi Purcell. Along with Annual Fund
Director Gloria Johnson, Purcell spearheads all
events related to the Proud Donor Campaign.
Anah Galloway, who graduates this year with
a B.S. in Psychology, was one of the recipients
of last year’s scholarships.
“To me, this scholarship means recognition
of my hard work, with less of a financial
burden on my mind,” Galloway said. “WilmU
offers unique accommodations so any student
can succeed. This scholarship also means a
chance to meet people who value education
as much as I do.”
“I work at WilmU because I believe I make
an impact on our students’ future and being
a donor is another method in which I can
make an impact,” said Janet Gill, who works
at the University’s Dover site. “I am proud to
be a commi ee member of the employee
campaign because I enjoy the opportunity
to give recognition to my colleagues for the
many methods of ‘donation’ they extend on a
regular basis.”
