Community Plans Envision
Future Changes for Claymont Area
Claymont, DE, and its surrounding communities encompass lands
of change since their early settle- ment, centuries ago. Today, greater Claymont’s land, buildings, and other history. Parkland and creeks, residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, varied industrial activity, interstates, and local roads mark the landscape.
Two recent community plans — the North Claymont Area Master Plan (NCAMP), adopted in 2017, and Governor Printz Boulevard Corridor Study (GPBCS), adopted in 2021 — were undertaken to envision a future that would best meet the needs and desires of diverse stakeholders in
these areas of New Castle County. In 2023, WILMAPCO began a third community plan for the center and southern areas of Claymont.
Claymont Area Master Plan
Over the next year, WILMAPCO, Claymont Renaissance Development Corporation, New Castle County, and DelDOT will work with the community to understand the area’s opportunities designed multimodal connectivity and a sense of place from a future community center to the surrounding neighborhoods, train station, parks, greenways, and other community resources.
Suggested objectives have been identified and will be refined through
a community visioning process:
• Develop a vision for a walkable, memorable center in Claymont.
• Identify the appropriate future land use and zoning to encourage redevelopment at key nodes throughout the center.
• Weave together potential develo- pment nodes with consistent streetscape ideas and urban design practices.
• Prioritize multimodal connections that expand transportation options locally and regionally.
• Capitalize on existing and potential partnerships to celebrate the past while moving Claymont forward.
