East Elkton Traffic Circulation and Safety Plan
Gets Underway
Work has begun on a transportation plan for the eastern part of Elkton, MD. Requested by the Town of Elkton and Circulation and Safety Plan (East Elkton Plan) examines transportation improvements to the Delancy Road (MD 781), Muddy Lane, and Belle Hill Road corridors.
Key elements include evaluating roadway realignments and connections, recommending projects to improve road safety and walking and bicycling connectivity, and recommending resolutions to land- Interchange. A steering committee comprised of local and state agencies is guiding the effort.
The East Elkton Plan will be driven by heavy public engagement. Two public opinion surveys are planned, along with three public workshops, and a parallel effort to engage local young people.

Adding bicycle lanes and bike and foot paths as appropriate throughout the study area was the second-highest transportation priority for survey respondents. Sixty-six percent rated
them “very important.” Improving intersections was the top priority, with 73% rating it “very important.”

The project team developed a series of draft project recommendations this past fall, based on the results of youth outreach, future development plans, and existing and modeled will be shared during a second major round of outreach in the coming months.
