W agency partnership between the City of Wilmington, DelDOT, DTC (operating as DART First State), and WILMAPCO. The goal of the partnership is to promote a balanced transportation system in Wilmington by incorporating improvements to all modes of circulation. One of the many Initiatives is the Wilmington Transit
district of Wilmington and will improve transit and pedestrian accessibility on the Orange Street, King Street, 8th, and 9th Street corridors. “Bump outs” will be constructed to provide better bus access and reduce boarding and unloading times. By increasing efficiency at each stop, this reduces the amount of time buses are
blocking the travel
lanes, thus improving
traffic flow. Real Time
signs that provide transit
riders with current bus schedule information will
be installed at bus shelter locations. Newly designed bus shelters provide wider pedestrian walkways and protect riders from inclement weather.
On the Orange Street corridor, new pedestrian safety improvements will be implemented on the DelTech campus (see top image above). Parking will be relocated to the east side of the roadway. New car side of the roadway, will be located the campus. A new “bump out” will be installed to reduce the pedestrian
