Transportation
Keeping New York Moving
The city’s most exciting transportation initiatives are taking place in Queens.
  John F. Kennedy Airport
Once upon a time, Manhattan was the focus of transportation in New York. Today, Queens is a destination unto itself, with substantial improvements that provide our workers many new opportunities right here at home.
“Queens is the place you used to travel through,” says Queens Chamber of Commerce President and CEO
Thomas Grech. “Now it’s the place you travel to.”
Airports
The airline industry is a key component of the borough’s economy and serves as a major employer.
A New LaGuardia, Worthy of New York
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are building an $8 billion, entirely new 21st-century airport while maintaining full operations for over 30 million passengers each year. This will be the first new U.S. airport in more than 25 years.
.
A JFK for the 21st Century
In October 2018, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a $13
billion investment – $12 billion from private funding – to transform JFK into a world-class 21st-century airport. Two new major international terminals will add 4 million square feet to
the airport’s north and south sides, increasing the airport’s capacity by at least 15 million passengers annually and transforming traveler experience from curb to gate.
Learn more about these historic transformations on page 28.
NYC Ferry
NYC Ferry now allows residents
of Far Rockaway, Astoria and Long Island City to travel by water, providing affordable and convenient transit for communities with limited transportation options. A one-way fare is $2.75, the current price of a ride on the subway.
