Thepast yearwasabusyone for intro-
ducingnewenvironmental effortswhile
alsomeasuring the successof ongoing
initiatives. Positive stridesareclearly
beingmadewithair emission reduction
improvementson cargo-handlingequip-
ment, andefforts to replaceolddray
truckswithnewer, cleaner-runningmodels
arepayingoff. Inaddition, theMaryland
Port Administration (MPA) isworking
aggressivelywith stateand local partners
toward further reducing theamount of
pollutantsentering theChesapeakeBayas
a result of stormwater runoff.
TheMPA is likewise takingahard
look at environmentally friendly uses
for dredgedmaterial. At the same time,
areas suchas theMasonvilleCoveNature
Area, whichwas establishedona site
ownedby theMPA, has earnednational
recognition as anUrbanWildlifeRefuge
Partnership.
During the course of 2013and into
2014,maximum energy has definitely
been channeled into creatinga cleaner,
greener Port of Baltimore.
