Celebrating 30 years
Goods From The Woods Kits And Video Series
We developed four Goods from the Woods videos, including an introduction, a plywood video, a lumber video, and a fluff pulp video.
In 2023, we assembled and distributed 600 Goods from the Woods kits to educators across NC. The kit now includes a Project Learning Tree activity called “We All Need Trees.”
What Is Sustainable Forestry? Video
NCFA Intern Andrea Casallas oversaw the production of a video entitled, “What is Sustainable Forestry?” This video highlights the contributions of sustainable forestry
to the environment and our economy and communities. Scan to watch the video.
Project Learning Tree
Project Learning Tree (PLT) is
the environmental education
program of the Sustainable
Forestry Initiative (SFI). PLT’s goal
is to advance environmental
education, forest literacy, and
career pathways using trees and forests as windows on the world. In 2023, NC PLT trained over 300 educators in NC and provided them with curriculum guides through the NCFA’s support. In addition, we collaborated with NC PLT and received a $20,000 grant from the North Carolina Sustainable Forestry Initiative – State Implementation Committee
(NC SFI-SIC) to fund a project to correlate the PLT curriculum guides to the updated NC standard course of study for science and social studies.

LOGGER EDUCATION
ProLogger
North Carolina’s keynote logger training program, ProLogger, is turning 30 this year! What started in 1994 as a call to action
to educate loggers about safety
concerns in the woods has become
one of the nation’s top logger
training opportunities, receiving
accreditation as the approved
logger training course for SFI.
Holding to its foundation,
ProLogger has continued to
promote the three pillars of
success: Safety, Business, and
Environmental Awareness. The ProLogger program is coordinated by the NCFA and made possible by industry-wide support
from Forestry Mutual Insurance Company, the North Carolina
Department of Labor, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the North Carolina Forest Service,
and the NC SFI-SIC. Cheers to 30 years!
In addition to hosting three regional ProLogger base classes,
continued education for loggers remains front and center.
