Above all, Pawn Run’s owners want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable when they visit. “We love to see memories being made and returning customers who feel right at home,” Kolb said.
For Kolb and her co-owners, opening Pawn Run has been a rewarding experience. “I truly believe some of the best people reside in and visit this area. We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so
THREE SISTERS FARM:
A Hobby Turned Family Business
Staci and Rodney Carr didn’t grow up on a farm, but dreamed of owning one someday. When their three daughters — Sara, Emma and Kyla — became involved with 4-H, they purchased a barn and three acres in Accident to accommodate the girls’ burgeoning hobby.
Five years later, in 2016, the
Carrs bought the remaining
27 acres of the property,
transforming it into what is now known as Three Sisters Farm. Since then, the family business has been in good hands, especially with the recent addition of the Carrs’ first grandchild.
While the farm isn’t certified organic, its meat is free of hormones and antibiotics. “We use organic controls as much as possible,” Carr said. “The reason we aren’t certified is because that cost carries over to our customers. We want to keep our products affordable, so we can provide good- quality food to everyone in the community.”
Three Sisters Farm sells its products at the Mountain Fresh Farmers Market in Oakland.
In addition, the Carrs are working on building a farm store. Its opening was planned for summer 2022, but the high costs of building materials led to a decision to delay that opening. Now, it’s tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2023.
“We do encourage people to come to the farm” for products, Carr said. “You can always call
and place an order, and we’ll be happy to get it together for you to pick up.”
many new people — it has enriched our lives,” she said. “This area is centered around the outdoors, and we live this way. We wanted a relaxing spot outdoors for our customers to enjoy as well.
Our picnic table area is a great place to catch a gorgeous sunset sinking behind the farm fields. Our patio is a relaxing place to eat and drink beneath string lights while looking out into the marsh and listening to the birds. We love this land and the amazing community!”
Looking ahead to the 2023 summer season, Pawn Run is making plans to host events that should appeal to locals and visitors alike, such as food trucks, outdoor music or showcases for local artists.
