Saturdays during the summer season. (There is also a winter market.)
The Deep Creek Farmers Market co-founders are all younger women, “and many of us have young families,” said Boyd. As the five of
them worked on their vision for the market, they determined that what the county needed was more than “just” a market — instead, they envisioned the Deep Creek Farmers Market as a destination for families, with live music and children’s activities. The market’s timing — Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. — was also designed to make it easy for county residents with a 9-to-5 schedule to attend.
As soon as the founders published their application for vendors, they received a tremendous response. “Our goal for this first year was to get 20 vendors, and we ended up with 36,” Boyd said.
Vendor and community response to the market’s first season has been positive across the board, Boyd said. “We felt like we had a lot of repeat customers by the end of the season. The main feedback we got from vendors was that it was just a positive vibe at the market, and a pleasant place to be on a Friday night. Customers liked the live music we had every week and specifically the prepared food options, which we hope we’ll have more of next year.”
At the time of this writing, planning for the 2023 season was still in the early stages, but the market will likely make its comeback right after Memorial Day. And, while the 2022 season ended around Labor Day, the next one may stretch into October, past the Autumn Glory festival, Boyd said.

In the 1960s, the Bowman family reinvented the tavern, expanding the building and operating it for another 14 years. After that, the business changed hands twice more. In 1982, it became the Pawn Run Saloon and cultivated a reputation among both locals and visitors for its friendly atmosphere and scrumptious steak dinners. Then, in the summer of 2022, the bar’s latest iteration — Pawn Run Bar & Kitchen — was born, under the auspices of a new family of owners.
“The reopening came about because we were approached by the previous owner about purchasing the property,” said Erika Kolb, one of Pawn Run’s new co-owners. “We were good friends with her and she loved the idea of the property being acquired by our family. This establishment is rich in history and was adored by our family. We shared many great times at Pawn Run over the years.”
As for the bar’s concept, “we simply wanted to offer quality food and drinks in a relaxing environment,” Kolb said. “We wanted
to create a warm, comfortable vibe with interesting, handcrafted cocktails — a step above typical bar drinks. We partnered with a
