About the County
ARTS, CULTURE & ENTERTAINMENT
DYour Hub for Arts and Culture
DELAWARE COUNTY HAS A ROBUST ARTS, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT SCENE — from repertory theater to historical reenactments and a pirate festival to a gem-arama — with performances, the calendar year-round.
Taking the lead in promoting regional arts and culture is The Delaware County Arts Consortium, a collaboration of cultural groups working to advance the economic vitality of
the nonprofit arts and culture community and promote the value of cultural resources to the local community.
The consortium has 17 members: Brandywine River Museum, Chester Children’s Chorus, Community Arts Center, Delaware County Symphony, Hedgerow Theatre, International Ballet Classique, Lansdowne Arts Festival, Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation, Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra, Main Line Art Center, Media Arts Council, Media Theatre, Rose Tree Pops Orchestra, Stage One of the Performing Arts Complex, The Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College and Tuscarora Lapidary Society.
In addition to the consortium, several communities have their own arts centers that also offer cultural programs.
Established in 2010, The Performing Arts Complex of Delaware County at Stage One is a nonprofit rehearsal and performance space for community arts organizations. Located in Wallingford, Stage One has convenient parking and multiple rehearsal and performance spaces.
Community Arts Center, Wallingford, has been promoting and teaching the
visual arts since 1948. The center
offers classes for all ages,
exhibits, special events and outreach activities
for schools and other community organizations.
Darlington Arts
Center is a nonprofit
organization in Concord
Township in Garnet Valley
that serves the cultural needs of
a diverse community by providing school and outreach programs in the visual and performing arts.
Upper Darby Performing Arts Center in Drexel Hill features professional and community performances, children’s theater, music, dance and one of the nation’s leading youth theater programs, Upper Darby Summer Stage. The center offers quality entertainment at family-friendly prices.

Delaware County’s arts bounty overflows with many cultural venues and special events:
The Brandywine River Museum is
home to three generations of Wyeth art, some
of the most beloved and recognizable American artwork. Visitors not only get to study these masterful works up close, but they can also explore the environments where they were created. Tours of the N.C. Wyeth House & Studio, the Andrew Wyeth Studio and the Kuerner Farm are conducted daily from April until late November.
Lansdowne Theater is one of the last 1920s-era theaters in the
Philadelphia area that remain largely unchanged, and was
added to the National Register of Historic
Places in 1987. Today, the theater hosts a cafe, photography school and
record store.
Hedgerow Theatre in Rose Valley hosts resident
and company actors who perform drama, comedy and children’s shows.
Founded in 1923 as the first resident community repertory theater in the country, Hedgerow has a rich history and a stellar reputation.
Tower Theater in Upper Darby was built in 1927 as a movie and vaudeville house. It has long been popular with nationally renowned musical acts and used as a recording venue for well-known bands.
