CHESTER COUNTY CHAMBER
Chester County’s Hospitals, Care Providers Work Hard for Your Health
T he COVID pandemic has driven home the importance of settling in a place where high-quality healthcare is easily and constantly accessible. With multiple hospitals, urgent
care centers, clinics and physician practices at your disposal in Chester County, you have many convenient options for keeping up with acute, chronic and preventative needs.
Healthcare, pharma and biotech is also a rapidly growing industry cluster in the Chester County area, meaning that some of the most innovative advances in treatment and prevention might have been discovered in your very own backyard by companies such as Janssen Biotech, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries or Endo International.
HOSPITALS
Chester County Hospital, an affiliate of Penn Medicine, has a long history that dates back to 1892. At the same time, it continues to expand and offer new services to the community.
The hospital’s new patient tower added 99 private patient rooms and was completed only about a month before the COVID pandemic spread into Chester County. The availability of these beds as well as the redeployment of staff allowed the hospital
to prepare, execute and meet the needs of the community. “More recently, we celebrated the completion of our three-year emergency department expansion and renovation project,” said
Kathy Gorman, the hospital’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Marketing. “We added 10 additional private ED rooms (one isolation room, seven treatment rooms and two trauma bays), bringing the total number of treatment areas in the unit to 43. The hospital stands ready as community needs evolve.”
Like many other healthcare providers, Chester County Hospital worked hard to remain flexible and quick-witted amid the constantly shifting landscape of the pandemic. “Because things were changing so rapidly with COVID, we became adept at communicating to our community and public health resources, whether it was about changes in visitation or whether we had availability of vaccines," said Dr. Karen Pinsky, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer. “I think we’ve continued to do that well.”
Chester County Hospital offers an array of inpatient and outpatient services, including heart and vascular interventions, advanced spine surgery, oncology and comprehensive maternal/infant health services, among others. The hospital also provides home health and hospice care, as well as radiology and physical therapy. In 2021, it received a five-star rating — the highest possible score — from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the second year in
a row, and was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals for Maternity Care in December 2021. In the spring of 2022, CCH earned an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade,
a distinction that recognizes achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error.
