HUNT VALLEY
EAST COUNTY
Baltimore County’s east, which includes communities such as Dundalk, Essex, Middle River and White Marsh, was once a major manufacturing hub. Like many areas, it saw those jobs depart over the years, but a renaissance is now taking place.
One significant driver of that renaissance is Tradepoint Atlantic. Located at Sparrows Point near Dundalk, on the former site of Bethlehem Steel, Tradepoint has become a major global logistics center within a few short years. On 3,300 acres of property, tenants such as BMW, Amazon, Pompeian, FedEx, Home Depot and many others have set up shop. Even steelmaking, the one-time bread and butter of Sparrows Point, is set to make a comeback: US Wind has announced plans to open a manufacturing plant that would produce base structures to anchor wind turbines to the ocean floor.
