Christiana Care Health System Wilmington Hospital South Tower Helistop
The South Tower Helistop project consisted of the addition of a 2,500 sf aluminum helistop constructed over the exiting roof on the hospital’s nine-story tower. This required additional structural support
to carry the load of the helipad and walkway. An extension of an existing stair tower had to be done
to provide a second means of egress from the upper roof. The helipad and walkway both have heated tubing inside for a snowmelt system. Contractors were required to work in conjunction with the roofer, since all new work had to be weathertight at the end of each shift. This meant that trades could only install as much work in a day that the roofer could protect.
