Give and Receive: The Benefits of Supporting Nonprofits
Have you ever wondered who helps people when government or
businesses cannot? That is where nonprofits come in. These organizations
are dedicated champions, tirelessly striving to improve society and address
critical issues.
How do they do this? They speak up for people who need help, foster civic
engagement and leadership, drive economic growth, and strengthen the
fabric of our communities. There are hundreds of nonprofits in Delaware
communities, each with its own mission and vision.
Many nonprofits provide direct services to individuals and communities in need. This can
include healthcare, education, housing, food distribution, and disaster relief. They are behind
our clean water, beautiful parks, and inspiring artistic and cultural heritage. By stepping in
where public services may be lacking or unavailable, nonprofits meet urgent needs and
improve quality of life for vulnerable groups.
By mobilizing volunteers and engaging communities, nonprofits foster social cohesion and
civic engagement. They provide platforms for individuals to contribute to the public good,
strengthening social bonds and promoting shared responsibility for societal welfare.
Through contributions, nonprofits channel resources from donors, governments,
and corporations to those who need them most. This redistribution helps to address
systemic inequities and ensures that funds reach underserved or marginalized populations.
Nonprofits also play a watchdog role, holding governments and corporations accountable
for their actions, especially concerning human rights, environmental protection, and social
welfare. They promote transparency and ethical behavior across sectors.
The nonprofit sector acts as a crucial pillar in addressing societal challenges, providing
services, advocating for change, and fostering community-led solutions that are often more
flexible, innovative, and inclusive than those provided by government or business alone.
If a problem is affecting your community, chances are there is a nonprofit organization already
working hard to find a solution.
Ensuring that Delaware’s nonprofit sector continues to thrive requires individuals,
businesses, and government entities to offer ongoing financial support. I encourage a
gift that is not restricted, so the nonprofit can direct the funds where they are needed most.
By supporting nonprofits, Delawareans can help create a more equitable, resilient, and
prosperous state for all.
Sincerely,
