Mayor Noam Bramson discusses New Rochelle’s impressive growth and commitment to supporting local businesses.
The scope of transformation. New Rochelle is implementing the most ambitious downtown development plan in its history, with some 32 proj- ects approved, complete, or under construction. The effect of this down- town growth will be to strengthen the local economy and create a more ro- bust base of customers for businesses of all kinds.
The future vision for New Rochelle.
Our vision for the downtown is mixed- use – a balance of activities to ensure a healthy city center and offer a range of quality goods and services to help attract a new population, while sup- porting existing and new business growth. It’s a virtuous circle.
New construction meets thought- ful repurposing. Among many other developments, I’m particularly excited about our first 48-story building in the Downtown Overlay-1 district, which includes a 48-story residential tower comprised of rental units and condo-
miniums, and a 24-story, 190-key hotel that adaptively reuses the city’s Historic National City Bank building at the corner of Main Street and Lawton. It has a bit of everything.
Making business easier. We want- ed to help businesses navigate ap- proval processes, so we created a Business Ambassador position, with the sole focus of helping businesses navigate approval processes. Our busi- ness Ambassador is Lisa Davis, who works with our Director of Economic Development, Luiz Aragon.
Investors are bullish on New Rochelle.
We recently broke ground on a new, 27-story high-rise building. It’s a mixed used property located at 14 LeCount Place that will house 380 units, with 25% of them deemed affordable housing. Wilder Balter Partners, L+M Development Partners and Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group are investors. Their interest and commit- ment is evidence of how favorably New Rochelle is now viewed among private investors.
