Westchester’s Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru Holiday Light Extravaganza
Kensico Dam, Valhalla
Nightly, Nov 25–Jan 1 (closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and some weeknights)
Tune your car radio to this event’s custom channel for some sprightly seasonal music to accompany the scintillating festivities. Next, put your pedal to the metal (gently!) and take in 1.2 miles of breathtaking lights. Some lovely new attractions include an updated live-Santa display, a kaleidoscopic alley, and a 30-foot-tall star. You’ll also see Westchester’s largest Christmas tree, a beauty that’ll make its Rockefeller Center counterpart turn green(er) with envy. The drive-thru opens at 6 p.m. Monday–Friday; 5 p.m. on weekends. End times vary. $25/vehicle off-peak; $35 during peak hours. Purchase tickets in advance to avoid a surcharge; on-site tickets subject to availability. wwinterwonderland.com
RETAIL CENTERS
Menorah Lighting
Cross County Center, Yonkers
Dec 19
6 p.m.
Get your holiday glow on near the Hollister store, where a special menorah — one so tall, a ladder is needed to reach the top — will be ceremonially lit by the rabbi of Chabad of Yonkers. Guests will enjoy live music, cultural dancing (hora, anyone?), and delicious treats. No promises as to what the noshes will be,
but the rabbi and his wife have been known to bring potato latkes and donuts. crosscountycenter.com/events
Ice Rink Season
Ridge Hill, Yonkers
Nov 20–Jan 18: Mon–Fri, 3–10 p.m.; Sat 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; Sun noon–7 p.m. The posh shopping hub’s Town Square Lawn is transformed into a family-friendly outdoor ice rink. Lace up a pair of skates (included in the ticket price) for some
classic winter fun in the famously village-like setting. It’s $18 for adults, $14 for kids 12 and under, for 90 minutes on the ice. Double-runner skates available.
Pet Photos With Santa!
The Westchester, White Plains
Dec 4 & 12
6–8 p.m.
Bring your cat, dog, or other furry friend to get a St. Nick pic. Reservations are not accepted since the length of a photo session can vary based on each animal’s prevailing spirit of cooperation. Whether your pet gladly snuggles on Santa’s lap or is happier staying with you, it’s all good — the Man in Red is very understanding. Worth knowing: Santa’s suit gets dry-cleaned after both evenings so that children with animal allergies can safely enjoy kiddie-photo days.
LIVE PERFORMANCES
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella
Yorktown Stage, Yorktown Heights
Nov 19 & 26, 7:30 p.m.; Nov 20, 25 & 27, 2 p.m.
If you can remember the last time this musical was in Westchester, there’s likely
a condo in Florida with your name on it. But before that, be there for the long- awaited comeback of this beloved event. Although Yorktown Stage is well known for its standout youth programs and summer camps, Cinderella’s performers aren’t fourth graders with a side hustle, charming as those may be. Instead, expect professional actors, plus lovely costumes, props, and sets, for an experience comparable to a Broadway outing. Tickets are $27—$35, based on seating and age/student status. yorktownstage.org/rodgers-hammersteins-cinderella
“Mr. Dickens Tells a Christmas Carol”
Lyndhurst Manor, Tarrytown
Dec 9–23, times vary
This stately Westchester landmark puts Charles in charge for a re-creation of his 1867 performance tour. Costumed actor Michael Muldoon will hold sway in the
