WESTCHESTER WORKS TALENT
TALENT – RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW
Westchester has one of the most talented, educated, driven and creative workforces in the country. Human resource experts, business owners and leaders of some of the county’s most successful businesses share what talent means to them.

WESTMED – RYE
We define a broad term like “talent” very clearly. A talented professional at all levels is someone who brings an unyielding curiosity to do things better, more efficiently, to “bend the curve.” This person also has a very high degree of what is called “emotional intelligence” (EQ)—a person’s ability to recognize and understand their emotions and their impact on the behavior, attitude, and results of others. People with a high EQ are in tune with the wants and needs of their peers. I’ve memorialized time and time again that these valuable people are able to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically without time-killing and goal-busting distractions. The idea of hiring for attitude and training the skill is how we at WESTMED define top talent acquisitions. We see that talent in Westchester.
ANGI CALKINS
Executive Director, Talent Acquisition
REGENERON – TARRYTOWN
At Regeneron, we believe “talent” is in the power of original thinking. Our company is built on breakthrough ideas; which is why we foster a spirit of openness, and strive to inspire from within. We are collaborative by design and driven by curiosity. Each one of us plays an active role in transforming people’s lives through our work. Regeneron’s people make us who we are, and we are truly more than a company – we’re a community.

PROGRESSIVE COMPUTING – YONKERS
Two important measures of our success are the behavior and capability of our team. It goes without saying that specific technical skills are required to do the job. We even expect to fill in technical gaps via on-going skills training. But there is a set of soft skills that are arguably more important than the technical know-how. Everyone at Progressive Computing must have a personal drive to get the job done, be a true team player, learn to balance their confidence and ego, and finally but not least, to be respect- ful at all times to all people. That’s the magic invisible stuff that separates us from the competition.
