                  Talk to Each Other
CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN PARENTS AND KIDS CAN EASILY GET EMOTIONAL OR GO OFF THE RAILS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS A FUTURE CAREER.
HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTED QUESTIONS TO GUIDE THE CONVERSATION SO YOU CAN KEEP THINGS RESPECTFUL, OPEN-MINDED AND PRODUCTIVE. THESE QUESTIONS ARE DESIGNED FOR KIDS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL OR THOSE JUST STARTING TO ATTEND HIGH SCHOOL.
 FOR PARENTS:
Questions to Ask Your Kids
• What do you enjoy doing most, at school and at home? What do you like about it?
• Can you see that interest or skill turning into a career?
• Is what you’re interested in different from what you
think we expect of you?
• What skills are you interested in learning before you graduate high school?
• Would you be interested in a high school pathway where you can get work experience and maybe even earn a paycheck before you graduate?
• Is there a specific career path you want to explore before you graduate?
• Would you like us to go to school and talk to your counselor together about your options for high school and after?
• What do you think are the most important questions you should be asking yourself right now?
FOR STUDENTS:
