 its Dundalk Marine Terminal berths to better accommodate larger farm and construction machinery. At the Seagirt Marine Terminal, which is managed under a public-private partnership between the MPA and Ports America Chesapeake, a second 50-foot-
deep berth and four new massive Neo-Panamax cranes have created additional capacity to service large ships.
Complementing those developments at the Port is the expansion of Baltimore’s Howard Street Tunnel, which is now underway. The project will allow the tunnel
to accommodate double-stacked container rail cars for the first time, giving the East Coast seamless double-stack capacity from Maine
to Florida for the first time. When completed, the Howard Street Tunnel project is expected to increase the Port’s business by another 160,000 containers annually.
