HISTORICAL SITES
The 18th-century Barratt’s Chapel in Frederica is the oldest surviving church building in the United States built by and for Methodists. It was here, in 1784, that the sacraments of baptism and communion were administered for the first time by ordained Methodist clergy, earning Barratt’s Chapel the name “The Cradle of Methodism.”
In Smyrna, Historic Belmont Hall dates to 1773 and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Arrange a tour to hear about those who have called Belmont home, including its original inhabitant, Delaware Governor Thomas Collins.
