Local restaurants have upped their takeout game, so those still uncomfortable in crowds can have their gourmet dinner without having to cook.
that resemble a catered dinner (minus the caterer). So those still uncomfortable in crowds can have their gourmet New Year’s Eve dinner for two (or more) without having to cook. Traditionally a popular scene on the Eve, Le Cavalier at the Green Room in the Hotel Du Pont offers a package for two for $175. It includes an ounce of caviar, a dozen blini and jars of chive crème fraîche and Le Cav’s black truffle, plus maitake duxelles, toast points and chocolate truffles. You provide the wine and the good company.
For some, it’s unthinkable not to have New Year’s dinner out. Le Cav will offer an elegant French-influenced menu. Harry’s Savoy Grill, another Wilmington classic, will be serving a custom New Year’s celebration menu, with live entertainment, party favors and a champagne toast
at midnight.
For when the evening is no longer young,
a handful of wineries produce delightful sparkling wines that are less expensive than champagne. Especially impressive
are the Brandywine bubblies coming out of 1723 Vineyards in southern Chester County. “Just before Thanksgiving, we introduced a new sparkling blanc that’s
a blend of multiple vintages, barrel-aged with malolactic fermentation,” says owner Ben Cody. “This wine is extra brut and has flavors of exotic tropical fruits.”
A little farther afield on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Crow and Chateau Bu-De wineries have excellent sparkling wines perfect for toasting the New Year. Whatever follows is up to you. TH
