    Fit With Jen:
Workouts for All Ages and Fitness Levels
Jen Sober started Fit With Jen in February 2020 — six weeks before COVID forced its closure. Luckily, she had 30 years of experience in the fitness industry to keep her going.
“I have had such an amazing following over the years that with their encouragement and support, I survived with flying colors,” she said. “I started virtual classes two days after I closed.”
In July 2021, Sober finally got to celebrate the studio’s official grand opening at Dry Dock Plaza in Oakland.
“All classes are suited for locals and vacationers at all levels, from beginners to advanced to anywhere in between,” Sober explained. As a result, classes fill up fast.
The most popular class is Body Sculpt. “It’s a great class to start with and stick with,” Sober said. “It has all levels and is non-impact, so it works great for everyone. I offer Body Sculpt three times a week due to its popularity.”
Other in-demand choices include spinning, kickboxing and yoga. Classes take place indoors, but in late spring and early fall, Sober offers an outdoor conditioning class at Deep Creek Lake State Park, providing participants a chance to take in the scenery while staying fit. (For those still concerned about gathering indoors, Sober said: “Everything gets cleaned at least three times before its use. We are also nicely spread out during the workout.”)
Age is no hindrance for anyone who wants to join classes at Fit With Jen. “I have always had a variety of age groups in my classes,” Sober said. “In one class, I may have a teen as well as someone in their 70s.

I teach all classes in a way to allow people to ramp it up if they want that workout to go way out of their comfort zone, as well as in a way to keep impact levels low if need be.”
Before coming to Garrett County, Sober’s career took her to major cities like New York and Washington, DC. “The classes were so big that you never really got to know your members,” she said. “Here, we have all become like family. Even vacationers are sad to leave and have to wait a year or many months before they are back to join us.”
For those who can’t wait, or who remain uncomfortable gathering in person, Sober still offers virtual access to her classes as well. “I get a lot of clients that live out of town who join us virtually,” she said.
