                     Alpaca Acres:
A Great Family Farm Outing
When Alpaca Acres Farm and Fiber opened to the public in 2020, “we started offering free farm visits to give folks something comforting to do during the pandemic,” said co-owner Tabby Hott. “Naturally, people fell in love with the herd. Alpacas have that way about them.”
Due to the popularity of these initial visits, the farm soon expanded its offerings for families, groups and individuals. Visits to
the farm begin with a guided walk to meet, greet and learn about the alpacas that reside there. You’ll get some free “alpaca treats”
to feed to any furry friends you make along the way.
After mingling with the alpacas, visitors are welcome to stay and enjoy the 200-foot mountain slide, jump pad, barrel train, pyramid, games and other family-friendly fun. Campfire rentals are also available by appointment.
If you want a memento of your visit, stop by the farm store for cozy products made from alpaca fiber, fun alpaca novelty items, rustic décor, gifts and more. The store is a more recent addition, but it’s just the beginning. “We plan to continue adding more each year,” Hott said.
At the time of this writing, the farm was open by appointment only, so make sure
to call ahead before you make your plans. Also, check the website (alpacaacresmd. com) for special events, such as Patriot Day, Grandparents Day, National Alpaca Farm Day, Small Business Saturday and more.
Alpaca Acres’ location in Garrett County, near the four-season destination of Deep Creek Lake, has been a key to its success, Hott said. “Our real working alpaca farm has views and experiences that you can’t find anywhere else!”
