Chester County’s top-rated providers, hospitals make it easy to stay well
Accessible, quality healthcare is essential to a thriving community. With multiple hospitals, urgent care centers, clinics and other treatment centers, Chester County strives to meet the many needs of its residents. Hand-in-hand with topnotch facilities and practitioners, the county’s healthcare professionals emphasize wellness, healthy habits and preventative care.
In Chester County, healthcare is also a thriving industry sector, with facilities, services and related businesses contributing to the area’s economic health by maintaining offices here and employing thousands of county residents.

Under the leadership of Tower Health, Brandywine Hospital continues to expand its medical staff and services, including heart and lung surgery, vascular surgery and imaging services. Recent investments include upgraded technology, equipment and systems as well as physical improvements to enhance care, patient safety and comfort.
With 170 patient beds in Coatesville, Brandywine continues its 100-year legacy of providing compassionate care for the whole community. There are family practice offices, a rehabilitation center, labs and other service locations throughout the county. Tower Health also operates urgent care centers in Malvern, Exton and Kennett Square.
The hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Target: Stroke Honor Roll Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award for its commitment to providing stroke patients the most appropriate treatment according to research-based guidelines.
Brandywine also received the 2019
Mission: Lifeline® Bronze Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks.
The Veterans Affairs Medical Center
has 300 beds in its Coatesville facility, with clinics in Springfield and Spring City. More than 19,250 veterans were treated in those facilities in fiscal year 2018. Specializing
in healthcare and social services for U.S. military veterans, the medical center provides primary, mental health, geriatric and women’s care. It also offers adult daycare, physical therapy, urgent care and inpatient rehabilitation.
Other healthcare facilities include Paoli Hospital, with the only trauma center — Level II — in the county, and Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital in Malvern, specializing in acute rehabilitation for traumatic injuries and illnesses. It offers
in-patient treatment and outpatient services at seven locations.
Other Services
The Chester County Health Department provides a wealth of services, including a walk-in clinic, adult and child immunizations, flu vaccines, mental health referrals and suicide prevention. The department also offers free classes and health screenings throughout the year.
Since 1991, the Maternal and Child Health Consortium has helped women have healthy pregnancies and maintain healthy families. The consortium’s programs include home visits, an early-start initiative to ensure that young children get the nurturing
they need, a family center, bilingual parent education and a referral service in the Coatesville area.
Senior Services
Chester County has many resources, services and housing options for senior citizens. Six senior centers, funded in part by the Chester County Department of Aging, offer activities, including meals, driving classes, seminars,
a book club and Medicare counseling. The department can also help families and individuals with decisions on care and housing options.
Echo Lake in Malvern is a senior community on a 25-acre waterside campus. It offers varied living arrangements, dining options, an on-site library and movie theater, different levels of care and a full range of activities.

Chester County Hospital, which has been
operating in West Chester since 1892, is working on a 250,000-square-foot expansion — its largest ever — designed to meet present healthcare needs and adapt to future challenges.
The 248-bed inpatient complex will grow
by 99 patient rooms in a new tower. In addition, the project includes 15 state-of- the-art operating room suites, a new main entrance, rooftop helipad and an expanded Emergency Department. Renovations to
the existing Emergency Department, which will continue through 2021, will add trauma bays, larger waiting space, enhanced security features and specialized exam rooms for ob/ gyn, bariatric and behavioral health patients.
The hospital, which joined the University of Pennsylvania Health System in 2013, is one of the county’s largest employers. It offers medical and surgical services, including oncology, radiation oncology, open heart surgery and comprehensive maternal and
