For nearly 40 years, Surrey Services for Seniors has been providing programs and services to address the emotional, physical and social needs of older adults in Chester and Delaware counties.
At its five centers, Surrey offers classes, volunteer opportunities and meals. In 2019, Surrey provided 57,000 home-delivered meals, 31,200 on-site meals, 58,500 center activities, 27,700 hours of home care services and 16,600 rides for 5,400 individuals.
“What differentiates Surrey is our caring philosophy, holistic view and our family- centered approach to services for the aging,” said Maureen McKnight, the organization’s Manager of Marketing and Communications. This approach led to two new home
care services for residents whose families do not live nearby: Medical Procedure Transportation gives rides to people having outpatient procedures that require anesthesia and RN Care Management provides medication management, advocacy and care coordination.
Another well-respected nonprofit, United Way of Chester County, “focuses on more than just a single issue or community,”
said Christopher Saello, President and CEO. “We invest in strategies and solutions that fight for the education, health and financial stability of every person in Chester County.”
The organization has specific goals in these focus areas, including supporting school success and academic achievement; helping individuals prevent and/or address physical and behavioral health problems; and meeting the needs of individuals in crisis, he said.
One initiative is the United Way Financial Stability Center, which aims to create
easy access to a network of financial and employment services, such as budgeting and credit counseling, benefit enrollment, job training and tax preparation.
“We aggressively seek out the people in Chester County who need help and we laser-focus solutions to help them,” Saello said.
