 THE ROAD
TO FREEDOM:
The Longwood Progressive Meeting House
Chester County was an important stop for freedom seekers on their way north. The Longwood Progressive Meeting House in Kennett Square
became a beacon to reformers throughout the United States for movements such as the abolition of slavery, women’s rights and temperance. Renowned speakers and visitors to the meeting house included Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth and more. Today, the building houses the Brandywine Valley Tourism Information Center and tours of the Kennett Underground Railroad’s history leave from this site.
Visit KennettUndergroundRR.org for more information and to schedule a tour. Brochure available at Brandywine Valley Tourism Information Center, 300 Greenwood Road, Kennett Square, PA.
