attendance records for Salesianum School Theater are anecdotal at best, but the production team is certain that this year’s musical established a modern record for attendance.
In athletics, Salesianum teams had another strong year, with five state championships and four other club and regional championships. Such excellence has become expected
by most students and fans, but beyond wins and losses, the athletic department is focused on honing a philosophy that is consistent across all programs and with the school’s mission. One manifestation of this is a renewed emphasis on travel,
with all teams being urged to visit other regions and expose students not only to different competition,
but to other cultures to broaden our students’ outlook on the world. The rugby team may win the prize for most miles logged, having visited Ireland and Argentina in consecutive years, but other squads have played games recently in areas as varied as Colorado, North Carolina, Canada and Kentucky.
Additionally, the Athletic Department is taking a leading role in the school’s intramural program, where the goal is to create an environment that is a step below interscholastic sports, but a level that students
would enjoy, particularly if they don’t play a varsity sport. While intramural basketball has long enjoyed this status, other sports are being added, with intramural soccer involving more than 100 students in its first year.
Another point of emphasis for athletics is the use of technology. GPS tracking devices worn by players are a useful tool to track how far players run to better manage practice and game preparation. Video highlight tracking and iPad Hudl provide performance analysis information in real time
on the sidelines, giving coaches a wealth of information never before possible.
