Salesianum’s school culture, anchored in the fabric of Salesian Spirituality, remains strong and vibrant, filled with spirit, pride and a sense of purpose in advancing the traditions of the school and building upon its history.
Salesianum continues to offer a wide array of clubs and activities,
a roster that grew to 45 different offerings during the 2017-18
school year. Beyond clubs and intramurals, the House Program is a touchstone for student involvement
and cohesion, providing ample opportunities for students at each grade level to interact and offering leadership opportunities for more students than ever. A leadership retreat prior to freshman orientation was attended by more than 50 upperclassmen, demonstrating the power of the House Program and the breadth of its reach.
One of the more positive outflows of student leadership is SALSTHON. Having completed its sixth year, SALSTHON has raised more than three quarters of a million dollars for local charities, most recently more than $130,000 for the 2018 SALSTHON recipient, Child, Inc.,
which runs the only two shelters for domestic abuse survivors in Delaware.
Spring 2018 also bore witness
to Salesianum School Theater’s production of Les Miserables. Beyond the ambition inherent in selecting such an epic musical, the choice of Les Miserables was an extension of the student council’s chosen theme for the 2017-18 school year: Change you, change the world. The performance brought all the fervor that Change you implies, and wowed audiences
over two weekends, when more than 5,000 spectators came to see the show. Going back 50 years,
