Vendemmia brings afternoon of fun to Tubman-Garrett Park

The Vendemmia Italian Wine Festival returns to Tubman-Garrett Park on the Wilmington Riverfront from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct.13. with an afternoon of food, wine, music and dancing.
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki joined festival organizer Ciro Poppiti and chairman
Steve Silicato in a Sept. 10 press conference to announce the event.
“We couldn’t be happier to welcome
back the Vendemmia Italian Wine Festival to Wilmington, where it belongs,” said Mayor Purzycki. “This event is a celebration of
the local Italian community and its proud heritage and culture. The festival features wine, food, music and dancing that everyone has come to appreciate and will enjoy
again next month. My thanks to the Italian American Foundation and the DaVinci Society for bringing the festival back home.”
Entertainment includes the swinging sounds of Steve Silicato and the classical arias of renowned mezzo soprano Andrea Arena.
Food vendors include Sitaly, Café Pomodoro, Café Riviera, La Pizzeria Metro,
Nicola Pizza, Serpe’s Bakery and Olevano olive oil.
Bob Trostel, executive vice president
of Breakthru Beverage Delaware, will be honored. Beer mega-star Sam Calagione will be making a special presentation to Trostel. There will also be a Dogfish Head beer garden.
The Wilmington Ballet will be on hand to attempt a world record for largest tarantella dance.
There will also be customary Italian gravy/sauce competition and homemade wine/cordials competition with professional judging and awards.
The event is sponsored by the Delaware Italian American Foundation a 501(c) (3). All proceeds will be spent locally in grants for at-risk youth and educational initiatives.
The grant process will be overseen the Societa` da Vinci.
