Leonardo da Vinci After 500 Years.

Italian Art Tours.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art, in collaboration with Ciao Philadelphia 2019, presents weekly tours of the Italian Art Collection from noon to 1 p.m. Museum is at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Event recurs on Oct. 11, Oct. 18, Oct. 25.

Piccolo Award Ceremony to honor high-school athletes

PONTEDERA — La riconversione ecologica del mondo del calcio passa da Pontedera. Ultimamente infatti il sindaco Matteo Franconi ha presentato i nuovi spalti dello stadio ‘Mannucci’, primo impianto
al mondo a essersi dotato di seggiolini in plastica riciclata, impiegando materiali derivanti dalle raccolte differenziate toscane, selezionate da Revet e riciclate da Revet Recycling. Nello stadio disputa le partite casalinghe la squadra locale che milita nel campionato di calcio di serie C.
“E’ un’applicazione concreta — ha detto Franconi — di quell’economia circolare davvero a km zero in cui i rifiuti raccolti, i cittadini che li hanno conferiti e gli impianti industriali che li hanno ulteriormente selezionati e poi riciclati sono interamente del nostro territorio: lo stadio li utilizza
oggi come ri-prodotti”. Complessivamente si tratta di circa 3 mila seggiolini sostituiti da altrettanti realizzati riciclando il plasmix toscano. “L’inaugurazione di oggi - sottolinea
il presidente di Revet, Livio Giannotti — corona un lungo lavoro del nostro ufficio Ricerca e sviluppo che certifica l’elevatissima qualità raggiunta dal nostro granulo. Ora stiamo lavorando alla riduzione dei costi per unità di prodotto per renderlo competitivo (non solo ambientalmente, ma anche economicamente), con quello realizzato al 100% in materiale vergine, che sfrutta anche le economie di scala finora attuate nel mondo.”
Revet, in collaborazione con l’azienda bolognese Omsi, leader nello stampaggio
di sedute per impianti sportivi, è partita
dal materiale vergine che viene attualmente utilizzato nel settore, per arrivare a un materiale compatibile con il proprio granulo riciclato in modo da formare una miscela che avesse le stesse caratteristiche del materiale di partenza e che garantisse il rispetto delle norme europee V2 adottate dalla Fifa. Il progetto consente di ridurre dal 30% al 40% il prelievo di materie prime dall’ambiente.

REHOBOTH BEACH — UNICO National, the country’s largest Italian American service organization, and UNICO Delaware 1 give Sussex County athletes an opportunity to participate in the seventh annual Brian Piccolo Award Ceremony and achieve a nationally recognized award.
It is given annually throughout the country to high-school senior athletes of Italian-American heritage who demonstrate the character traits modeled by Brian Piccolo in his life and career (courage, friendship, loyalty, teamwork, dedication, sense of humor and anti-bias).
The Delaware Chapters of UNICO come together each year to honor the memory of this legendary professional football player,
a running back for the Chicago Bears from 1965-69, who died of cancer in 1970 at age 26.
In the past six years, senior athletes
from many Sussex County high schools have secured a donation of $1,000 from UNICO Delaware for their respective athletic
departments. This award is offered in the fall to afford all students the opportunity to note their nomination on a resume and application for higher education or employment.
The recipient will be added to the list
Brian Piccolo was a running back for the Chicago Bears from 1965-69, who died of cancer in 1970 at age 26. His story is told in the movie “Brian’s Song,” where he was played by James Caan.

Each nominee representing their school will receive gifts and tickets to the award ceremony for themselves and guests.
