SPORTS, ENTERTAINMENT ABOUND IN WILMINGTON

For visitors to Delaware’s largest
city there is plenty to keep them entertained while in town, including two professional sports teams and a variety of music and theater venues. Here’s a look at some
of the options:
DELAWARE BLUE ROCKS
The Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Washington Nationals plays every
year at Frawley Stadium from April to September. The baseball team has seen great success over the years, most recently winning its league title in 2019. The Blue Rocks also has been home to more than 130 major league players early in their careers, including All-Stars like Carlos Beltran, Johnny Damon, Zack Greinke and Mike Sweeney, among others. The ballpark is family- friendly and offers numerous promotional giveaways throughout the season.
DELAWARE BLUE COATS
The G-League affiliate of the Phila- delphia 76ers basketball team plays at
the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington.
Like its baseball neighbor, the Blue Coats have found great success in recent years, playing in the 2020-1 and 2021-2 G-League Championship games. The team has also seen a number of its players move up to the NBA over the past few years. Games at the 76ers Fieldhouse are like-wise family- friendly affairs, with games for children held adjacent to the court.
THE QUEEN
The more than 200-year-old theater
on Wilmington’s Market Street has been rebuilt and refocused on music and comedy, hosting a number of big-name acts since it reopened in 2011. Shows are hosted at the space nearly every week and its decades old wall murals are truly something to
see while in town.
THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE
This Market Street theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has hosted a variety of musical acts, theater productions and more for

more than a century. It is among the largest entertainment venues in the state and offers majo to major artists throughout the year as well as local productions, including the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and Opera Delaware.
