MERIT AWARD WINNERS
SOBIESKI LIFE SAFETY
In the special category of fire sprinkler/alarm
systems, a Merit is awarded to Sobieski Life Safety
for the Freire Charter School. Sobieski, contracted
through GGA Construction, led a design-build fire
alarm project integrating a new system with an
existing one while meeting local codes. Hiring our
electrical contractor allowed schedule control, cost
reduction and ahead-of-time completion despite
challenges with legacy system integration.
GOGLASS JOY
GoGlass is awarded a Merit in the specialty glazing
category for Ocean Downs Clubhouse in Maryland.
GoGlass installed a steel-reinforced curtain wall
system, storefronts, doors, frames and insulated glass
units. Facing challenges like high wind speeds and
tasks beyond the typical scope, the team ensured the
project stayed on track and exceeded expectations.

THE WHITING-TURNER
CONTRACTING COMPANY
Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is awarded
a Merit in the GC/CM $30-50 million category for
the Food Bank of Delaware. The New Milford Food
Bank is a 68,000 square foot facility that includes
warehouse and cold storage spaces, volunteer and
workforce development spaces and a Health Pantry
Center. Also included is a 3,000 square foot packing
barn and open-air pavilion.
GGA CONSTRUCTION
A Merit is awarded to GGA Construction in the GC/
CM $4-6 million category for the Freire Charter
School in Wilmington. The project required
selective demolition of an existing building to be
replaced with a new steel structure providing the
height required for a new gymnasium. The facility
boasts new wood gym flooring, two locker rooms,
a fitness room and bleachers.
