Development
Among all the municipalities in Westchester with an IDA, the Yonkers IDA tops the list for the highest number of jobs created, one of the lowest rates of cost-per-job created, and the highest net tax exemptions. It is known through- out New York State for its dynamic vision and ongoing development projects. Westchester’s Ridge Hill, one of the largest IDA-backed proj- ects in the state, has brought nearly $1 billion in investments and 3,200 permanent jobs to Yonkers.
President/CEO Melvina Carter, who has been with the Yonkers IDA since 2005, has a formula that’s working: “We promote the advantages of Yonkers as a location, and we offer specific financial incentives for a business to come here, or expand if they are already here.”
Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway continues to expand and enhance its enter- tainment experience and is now the second biggest revenue producer in the state.“We’re proud to be Yonkers’ largest private employer with nearly 1,200 employees,” said Timothy J.
