This nearly 5,500-square-foot home in Mount Vernon features a front entry with Saratoga Granite piers, bay windows, and gable rooflines. The asymmetry offers a modern look, and a standing seam metal roof and horizontal steel railings create an industrial feel. Black-stained modern siding is inspired by shou sugi ban, the Japanese art of preserv- ing wood by charring it with fire. The dark stain on knotty cedar ship- lap siding offers a rustic flair, while clear cedar installed at the soffits and porch ceilings allows for a unique look.
