                                 TRANSPORTATION
GETTING THERE FROM HERE BY TRAIN, FERRY, BUS AND PLANE
One of the greatest advantages of living in Westchester and the Hudson Valley is the region’s proximity to the greatest city in the world. The five boroughs of New York City are easily aTccessible by car, and from one of the largest commuter railroads in the nation.
he newest transportation in- novation in the state is the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, spanning the Hudson
River and connecting Westchester and Rockland counties. The 3.1 mile state- of-the-art twin spans cross one of the widest parts of the river and represent the longest bridge in New York State.
The bridge features eight general traffic lanes and dedicated space for disabled vehicles, emergency respond- ers, and buses. A shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians is scheduled to open this year.
RAILROAD AND FERRY SERVICES
In 2017, Metro-North Railroad set an all-time record with 86.5 million rides, and an on-time performance goal at 93.4 percent. Commuters who take the Hudson Line through Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties have an added bonus, with the Hudson River and Palisades serving as a beautiful back- drop. The Harlem Line brings commuters to and from bustling communities such as White Plains, Pleasantville, and Mount Kisco. The New Haven Line hugs the Long Island Sound and brings passengers to and from New York City or New Haven, CT, and every place in between. Rockland and Orange County residents are serviced by Metro-North’s Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines, respectively. There are also ferries connecting Haverstraw to Ossining and Newburgh to Beacon.
BUS SERVICES
In Westchester, the Bee-Line bus system serves more than 30 million passengers annually with a combina- tion of local, express, and railroad-feeder bus services. Over 65 percent of all Westchester County residents are within walking distance of a Bee-Line bus route.
Rockland residents can also take Hudson Link – the commuter bus ser-
vice which opened in October 2018 along the I-287 corridor and the Cuomo Bridge — to Metro-North stations in Tarrytown and White Plains. Hudson Link service now features new bus shelters and 45-foot long buses with wireless net- work service, USB charging stations, and bike racks.
Transport of Rockland (TOR) is Rockland County’s local bus system of 10 routes, providing service along ma- jor corridors as well as with feeder loops within the county.
Putnam Area Rapid Transit (PART)
operates four fixed routes year-round in addition to a seasonal trolley in Cold Spring, and a commuter shuttle to the Metro-North station at Croton Falls.
Dutchess County Public Transit
transports approximately 800,000 pas- senger trips per year on 13 routes and two different RailLink routes to train stations.
Orange County sponsors 16 individual transit operators providing services in four general categories: commuter bus, local bus, dial-a-bus, and paratransit services.
Paratransit services are provided in all counties for people who can’t use the local system due to disability.
AIR
Westchester County Airport (HPN), located five miles east of White Plains, offers commercial, business, and private aviation services and is served by four passenger airlines: American, Delta, United, and JetBlue. It has direct flights to 10 cities, including five cities in Florida. In addition, Cape Air and Tradewind Aviation offer flights to New England destinations such as Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Boston and Stowe. In May 2018, Houston- based fixed-base-operator Million Air opened a new hangar at HPN’s private aviation complex. The facility includes an 8,000 sq. ft., two-story, Adirondack- styled terminal and a new, 52,000 sq. ft. hangar addition.
New York Stewart International Airport in Orange County is served by American, Allegiant Air, JetBlue, and Delta.
