President & CEO
St. John’s Riverside Hospital
For more than 132 years, Saint Joseph’s Medical Center has proudly served the residents of Yonkers and its surrounding communities with patient‐centered, quality‐focused inpatient and outpatient care. Through the Great Depression
and two World Wars, Saint Joseph’s has continued its tradition of compassionate care for the local community. COVID‐19 challenged the hospital like no other time in its recent history. Located in the epicenter of the pandemic in Westchester County, Saint Joseph’s dedicated team
of healthcare professionals rose to the occasion and responded selflessly and heroically to the daily heart‐wrenching turmoil of the deadly pandemic. As the only remaining Catholic hospital in all of Westchester County and New York City, the Mission of the hospital was more visible than ever before as staff put their lives on the line to care for our community during this unprecedented time. Saint Joseph’s Medical Center is proud to accept this award on behalf of its healthcare heroes.
SAINT JOSEPH’S MEDICAL CENTER
                             ST. JOHN’S RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL
St. John’s Riverside Hospital is rich
in history, founded by women of the community in 1869, making it the first hospital between New York City and Albany. St. John’s built itself around an early foundation of nursing and community service. Today St. John’s Riverside Hospital is a leader in providing the highest quality, compassionate medical, and nursing
care utilizing the latest, state‐of‐the‐art technologies. At St. John’s, we are committed to improving the quality of life in our community.
St. John’s employees and physicians were on the front‐lines for the COVID‐19 surge of 2020, and although each person on our team was impacted in varying degrees, our entire team’s response was nothing short of heroic. Our staff worked four months straight, fulfilling their mission of service to our community, and in some cases,
did not go home in fear of exposing their own families to the virus. They worked in an ICU, the capacity of which expanded
by 333%, while also treating hundreds of COVID symptomatic patients in the hospital and Emergency Department. Our team of incredible physicians, nurses, ancillary and support staff showed up every day and cared for gravely ill patients. This team is well respected in the best of times. In the worst of times, they cared for truly sick individuals in a frightening moment of history and inspired us all.
As we reflect on this year’s events, it is
a source of great pride that the skill, teamwork, and resilient spirit, which is the hallmark of St. John’s, is still present. We have kept our community informed, focused on their safety, the cleanliness
of our facilities, and built on our services by implementing new technologies and virtual platforms for their care. Their support and trust sustained us and fueled us forward. Through our doors walks
the greatest healthcare team! We are Community Strong!
