Tell us about the mission of New York Blood Center Enterprises.
New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) has
proudly served the community since 1964 as one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers, providing the highest quality blood and stem cell products and related medical and consultative services to hospitals and patients.
We offer a comprehensive menu of products and services to support and manage the full spectrum of transfusion medicine, regenerative medicine, and cellular- therapy-related research projects. We’ve been recognized internationally for our high humanitarian impact, research and development, and commercial collaboration. NYBCe collects and distributes human blood, conducts basic and applied research, and provides public and professional educational activities in the field of transfusion medicine.

Our world-renowned Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute conducts the highest quality, novel, and innovative research in the fields of hematology, blood banking and transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies, thus advancing these fields and positively impacting public health. is research supports the development of products, technologies,
and services with the potential to have a worldwide humanitarian impact.
What are some current, noteworthy areas of focus?
Our Comprehensive Cell Solutions laboratory is about to change the world of outsourced cGMP manufacturing
of cell and gene therapies (CGT) with a unique social enterprise model of business. is business unit is a cell and gene therapy-focused development and manufacturing organization that provides critical capacity to an
underserved population of early-stage developers, as well as expertise and a strategic footprint for hospital treatment centers and pharmaceutical organizations. It draws
upon two decades of pioneering work in the field of cell therapy, sourcing and processing material for thousands of successful bone marrow transplants, and leading research of hematopoietic stem cells.
In addition, our National Center for Blood Group Genomics was launched to apply precision medicine using genomics to treat hematological malignancies, inherited, and acquired anemias, autoimmune diseases, and transplantation when selecting products for transfusion. Practices of matching patients and blood donors based only on the ABO and Rh type have not changed materially since the 1950s, despite the discovery of more than 300 other blood group antigens. e center specializes in providing PreciseMatchÆ blood products nationwide to avoid complications, properly screen patients for the suitability
of various transfusion treatment regimens and improve transfusion medicine's overall practice and safety.
