 Epiphany: The festival of the Three Kings
Holy day on Jan. 6 honors the Magi who came to Bethlehem 12 days after Christmas

For many Italian-American families, the Christmas season is now past but in Italy it continues through the beginning of January with the celebration of Epiphany. This takes place on Jan. 6, a Roman Catholic holiday as well as an Italian national holiday.
The Church proclaims that the Epiphany feast brings an end to Advent with the words, “The Lord and ruler is coming; kingship is his, and government and power.” Epiphany, therefore, marks the liturgical zenith of the Advent-Christmas season. Some of our readers may know this holiday as Three
Kings Day, Little Christmas, or the 12th Day of Christmas, the day that the Magi were said to have arrived at the manger bearing their gifts for the Christ child.
Its origins were that of a simple feast typical of some regions, which then spread to the rest of the Peninsula. It incorporated
local traditions and folklore together with a strong religious value; Epiphany honors the adoration of the Magi who came to Bethlehem 12 days after Christmas by following the comet with gifts for the baby Jesus. The appearance, however, also has
