attracted more than 7,000 music lovers to Wilmington’s Frawley Stadium.
A spring and summertime roster filled with special events is designed to bring more residents and visitors together in
a city that knows how to throw some great parties. Among them are festivals celebrating the diversity of Wilmington’s population, with events centering
on specific cultures such as Greek, Italian and Hispanic
Other events are built around music such as the all-female Ladybug Festival, the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, the Riverfront Blues Festival and the 25th anniversary of the People’s Festival,
a tribute to Bob Marley.
SHOWCASING SUCCESS
With so many dynamic people, places and events in Wilmington, the city needed creative ways to showcase its success stories and attract even more residents, businesses and visitors.
A comprehensive marketing and promotional initiative called Wilmington Love, launched last September, includes a website, a YouTube program, an email campaign and extensive use of social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The initiative is being funded largely by the private sector.
The website wilmtoday.com provides up-to-the-minute news about what’s going on in Wilmington. It also includes an entertaining blog.
A YouTube program called “The Wilmington Show” provides another way to communicate everything that
is special about the city and those who live and work in it with on-location interviews and short video clips.
Businesses and public service organizations in the community are encouraged to submit their stories
at Stories.Wilmington.Love for coverage on “The Wilmington Show.”
The city is also leveraging an e-news subscriber list consisting of between 15,000 and 20,000 subscribers and
lists from organizations partnering in Wilmington’s renewal and growth by sending out news announcements.
“All of our citizens have every reason to be optimistic about Wilmington’s future,” Purzycki says.
