In April, downtown Wilmington welcomed a new 12,000-square-foot food hall called DE.CO, short for Delaware Collective, in which eight chefs present their specialties. Billed as “A Launchpad for Chefs, A Haven for Eaters,” DE.CO was a $3.5 million project and features an international array of food options ranging from pho to pizza and sushi to Indian street food. One of the most unique dining options is The Pop-Up, a “test kitchen” that will present different chefs on a biweekly to monthly basis. DE.CO is located in Wilmington’s DuPont Building at 10th and Orange streets and is open seven days from 7 or 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. or midnight.
EDUCATION AND EVENTS
Keeping the city’s neighborhoods safe and clean remain top priorities for Wilmington’s future. The West Center City (WCC) initiative responsible for carrying out those plans “has produced tremendous results,” the mayor says.
Today, WCC clean teams scour the sidewalks and streets and properties are being restored for homeownership. The success of the WCC effort has made it a model for the revitalization
of other Wilmington neighborhoods. An ongoing emphasis on creating
educational opportunities for local students recently brought 13 historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) to Wilmington to meet and recruit potential additions to their student bodies. These quality institutions admitted more than 1,000 city students.
