WILMAPCO Considers Options for Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements
WILMAPCO has reviewed eight applications for the Transportation Alternatives Program Pedestrian Improvement Program.
TAP funds are used to assist with designing and constructing projects that create safer bicycle and pedestrian facilities, restore historic transportation buildings, mitigate highway runoff, and provide other enhancements. Projects must be open to the public and serve a transportation purpose, among other requirements. County and municipal governments, transit agencies, natural resource or
relationship to surface transportation, must be dedicated to public use, walking and bicycling network to connect people to destinations like transit, jobs, commercial areas, sponsors include local governments, transit agencies, natural resource or public land agencies, school districts,

• Newport River Trail: Trail.
• Commons Blvd Pathway Phase 2:
A path to link New Castle Corporate Commons and Airport Road to the Road.
• Papermill Road-Pomeroy Connector:
White Clay Creek and the Pomeroy Trail through Olan Thomas Park, with a Pomeroy extension to Kershaw Park.
•Midtown Brandywine Streetscape:
City of Wilmington streetscaping and pedestrian improvements in the area West, Tatnall, and Orange Streets.
• North DuPont Road Pedestrian Safety and Public Landscape: Pedestrian and school access improvements to Cab Calloway, Wilmington Charter, and
• Tri-Parks Pedestrian Improvements:
A path to link Surratte, Rose Hill, and
friendly alternative to the SR 9 corridor
• SRTS First State Montessori Academy: Traffic calming and pedestrian improvements in the area surrounding the school.
• Townsend Sidewalk Walkability:

WILMAPCO ranks applications by considering a variety of transportation, land use, and demographic factors. Transportation criteria include filling in gaps, nearby bus stops, bike routes, crashes. Land use criteria include nearby community centers, libraries, schools, parks, municipalities, and historic transportation facilities. density of housing and jobs, challenged areas with concentrations persons with disabilities.
