 Corridor Management Plan for Red Clay Valley Scenic Byway Gets an Update
      O n June 22, the Red Clay Valley Scenic Byway Alliance       Corridor Management Plan (CMP) for public input. While much of        relevant, the Alliance reviewed and updated current activities, implementation strategies, and likely future activities in the CMP
anticipated in the next 10 years.
Twenty-eight secondary roads within the Red Clay Creek watershed comprise the Red Clay Valley Scenic Byway, the nation’s first watershed-based byway. This unique model strengthens and serves to protect the water quality of Red Clay Creek by preserving the land in the watershed and protecting the unique character of the area.
Since 2008, highlighted byway accomplishments include:
• Developed a priority listing of properties for protection
• Developed Context Sensitive Design Standards
• Land-use code changes drafted
     
redeveloped
• Memorandum of Understanding with DelDOT for coordination on road characteristics, safety, signage, and speeds
Future efforts include increased events,

The Delaware Nature Society is the byway’s coordinating agency. Other Alliance members include Historic Red Clay Valley, Inc., Mt. Cuba Nature Center, Red Clay Reservation, Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, Center for the Creative Arts, the Yorklyn
Planning Group, the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts Council, and Wilmington and Western Railroad. Honorary members include Delaware State Parks, New Castle County, DelDOT, and WILMAPCO.
