JASON TAYLOR AND NICK VIAZZO Taylor-Viazzo Architects
WHITE PLAINS This 1950s split- level house had been renovated many times before and was a mashup of architectural styles. The team studied the home’s underlying forms to make it more cohesive
and true to itself. The end result is
a modern approach with industrial architecture. The styles blended naturally with the homeowner’s midcentury essence and helped inform the decisions throughout the process. The new exterior design wraps the building in dark-gray fiber cement siding with ipe-wood rainscreen accents. The home’s interior was virtually gutted and rebuilt, with only a few original walls remaining. In the kitchen
the industrial style was elegantly expressed by exposing the ceiling joists. A warm, cohesive palette defines the living spaces with the use of concrete-inspired porcelain, dark- wood flooring, and black window frames. Outside the house, new front stairs, back stairs, two patios, and retaining walls were constructed, as well as new landscaping.
