Consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the U.S., Westchester County offers miles of green open space, scenic coastlines, great places for outdoor activities, world renowned restaurants and some of the best ranked schools in the country.
While Westchester benefits from its location as a suburb of New York City, it’s unique in that it has a host of young, fun, hip and contemporary villages and cities.
Situated on the banks of the Hudson River, Tarry- town boasts quaint retail shops and eclectic restaurants, a picturesque Main Street and an art deco theater. Port Chester features a diverse array of ethnic restaurants, a historic rock and roll concert venue and great nightlife. Yonkers is known for its rolling hills along the Hudson, diverse ethnic neighborhoods and a revamped water- front. Peekskill enjoys a vibrant arts scene, a restored 1930s movie palace and a downtown historic district. Mount Kisco is home to beautiful Victorian homes, a bustling village center and historic sites.
PERFORMANCE VENUES
With 16 cultural and performing arts venues, the county offers wide-ranging leisure and entertainment options. Here’s a brief sampling:
Built in 1926, The Capitol Theatre is a historic theatre located in the village of Port Chester.The 1,800- seat concert venue has hosted such acts as the Grate- ful Dead, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd,
David Bowie, Squeeze, NeilYoung, Herbie Hancock, and Duran Duran.
A National Historic Landmark, The Music Hall (Tarrytown) is a late 19th century theater that has host- ed acts such as R&B legend Mavis Staples, the Moth Pod- cast Radio Tour, the 80s rock band the Psychedelic Furs and singer-songwriter Michael McDonald.
Based in Pleasantville, the Jacob Burns Film Center is a non-profit educational and cultural organization that hosts 200,000 annual visitors to its art house theater.
Located in Katonah, Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is a destination for exceptional music, cap- tivating programs, and spectacular gardens and grounds,
FINE ARTS
Art lovers can browse the African and contemporary art showcased at Purchase’s Neuberger Museum of Art or wander the sculpture garden at the Katonah Museum of Art. At Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate in Pocantico Hills, art aficionados can take in works by Picasso, Warhol and other celebrated artists that adorn the historic mansion.
