Cottage Museum

A National Historic Landmark and former homestead of Thomas Paine whose pamphlet, “Common Sense,” helped spark the American Revolution. Headquarters of the Huguenot and New Rochelle Historical Association. The museum exhibits include artifacts and furniture from the 18th century to present day, the founding of New Rochelle by the French Huguenots, past and current prominent citizens of New Rochelle and artifacts from the Siwanoy tribe. The Sophia Brewster one-room schoolhouse, circa 1836, is on view on the Cottage grounds along with Paine’s original gravesite.
