       STATUES AND BUSTS
You probably already know some of the art made with molten metal, soldering irons, and hammers and chisels at Laran Bronze, Inc., a foundry in Chester. The Harry Kalas statue that stands at Citizens Bank Park was forged here, as was the bust of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. located in the civil rights leader’s eponymous park in Chester. Laran also had a significant hand in in the National WWII Memorial in Washington, DC, casting eight giant eagles, two 10-foot wreaths and 24 bronze reliefs for the project. The foundry is not open to the public, but online videos allow visitors to see how these skilled craftsmen make art that is larger than life.
 CANDY
Oh Ryan’s Original Irish Potatoes candy is a seasonal treat that’s on the tip of tongues throughout the Philadelphia region from January through March. Oh Ryan’s of Linwood ships more than 80,000 pounds of Irish Potatoes to candy stores
and supermarkets, making it the largest distributor of this traditional local confection. Despite the name, no potatoes are harmed in the making. Instead, the marble-sized candies with coconut cream centers have a cinnamon coating that makes them look like small potatoes. Want to satisfy your sweet tooth for the rest of the year? The makers of Oh Ryan’s also own Christopher Chocolates in Newtown Square!
 MOVIES
When films are made in Delco, chances are SunCenter Studios was part of the picture. Located in Aston, it’s Pennsylvania’s premier film and television production facility. Recent feature films made at SunCenter include Creed II — starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone — and Glass, by local wunderkind M. Night Shyamalan. The studio’s roof is covered in solar panels, and you can follow their energy output live at www.suncenterstudios.com/services/solar.html.
  P A S T A
Talluto’s has been making pasta since 1967. Today, the second and third generations of the Talluto family
produce more than 90 varieties at
the company’s 50,000-square-foot factory in Folcroft. But calling it a
factory is almost a misnomer —
really, it’s a kitchen, where all the original
recipes and machinery from the company’s founding days are still at work, guaranteeing that Talluto’s pasta
will always have that same taste of home.
 TOTE BAGS, BACKPACKS AND MORE
After the year we’ve all had, we deserve something nice, and
the durable, gorgeous bags from Arden + James definitely fit the bill. The company’s founder, Bri Brant, works with historic local materials to create a blend of industrial and craft-based design, informed by natural materials like beeswax and plant dye. Brant makes all bags herself at her workshop in Chadds Ford and welcomes customers to choose custom options for size, color, strap and decorations to make each piece truly unique.
